Mariazell Railway

Where unspoiled nature meets new technology

From the regional capital St. Pölten through the picturesque Pielach Valley and the ÖTSCHER:REICH region to the pilgrimage destination of Mariazell, crossing 19 viaducts and passing through 21 tunnels: a trip on Austria's longest narrow-gauge railway is an experience that lingers long in the memory.

The modern Himmelstreppe train sets on the Mariazell Railway have been in service since 2013. The fleet comprises nine low-floor units. Passenger comfort is assured.

A particular highlight of the Mariazell Railway are the first-class panorama carriages. These are in service on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays in summer season and during Advent season They captivate with their panorama windows and catering service serving local delicacies.

Meanwhile, you can enjoy the adventure-train Ötscherbär on Saturdays and Sundays in summer season and during Advent season. It is pulled by a more than 100-year-old electric locomotive and captivate with lovely themed journeys for children and families. 

The vintage Mh.6 steam locomotive is also in service on specific dates from May to December. Hint: a journey with the historic steam locomotive is especially stunning during Advent season.
