Description

The different natural and cultural landscapes inspire the hikers on this tour. The Alm am Hochbärneck, with the Almhaus and the observation tower, is ideal for a short break. After the descent through a shady beech forest, with a wonderful view of the Ötscher, the path leads along the crystal clear Erlauf through the Vorderen Tormäuer, past the Eibenmühle mill and the Hundsbachfall. The final highlight is the Trefflingfall, which plunges into the depths in the form of several cascades. Back at the starting point, you can pick up your well-earned snack at the Trefflingtalerhütte.

Route description Sulzbichl - Hochbärneck - Trefflingfall - Sulzbichl

The starting point is the Trefflingtalerhütte am Sulzbichl in the municipality of Puchenstuben, where admission to the nature park is paid in order to preserve the paths. At first the path leads along the asphalt road for a short distance, before turning left onto a forest road and after about 2 hours reaching the alpine pasture Hochbärneck. After a stop at the Almhaus and a visit to the viewpoint, the trail descends steeply downhill via a forest path and a road towards Eibenboden. At an inconspicuous junction you have to keep left to get to the Eibenmühle. Through the Vorderen Tormäuer, along the Erlauf and past the Hundsbachfall, you reach the Trefflingfall, which has to be climbed as the last stage over the spectacular waterfall path, before the last stretch leads through a forest next to the Trefflingbach back to the starting point.

Author's tip

On hot summer days, the cold water of the Erlauf and Trefflingbach streams is a refreshing treat.
