Brief description

The Erlauf-Walster route is a leisurely route through the Mariazell region. Streams, lakes, green meadows, and forests invite you to linger.

Description

The leisurely trekking route through the Mariazell region starts at the village square of Mitterbach. After a short warm-up phase, it goes up the Schindelsattel after just a few kilometers and then quickly down into the Walstern. Coming from the Walstern—a popular excursion destination for many guests—the route continues to the famous pilgrimage site of Mariazell. The final stage leads from Mariazell along the road and then the bike path to the crystal-clear Erlauf Lake.  A plunge into the cool water can be advisable on hot summer days to manage the last few kilometers back to Mitterbach.
